The Product

The outdoor wrap is a high-tech natural product consisting of 100% cotton. This natural product is woven in a special way which makes the material 100% waterproof.

In contrast to synthetic or traditional coated fabrics the outdoor wrap is characterised by its high level of breathability and its extreme wind, rain, and cold resistance.

Through the weaving technique used (Half-Panama weaving) it creates an extremely dense fabric where the fibers swell when they get wet. Thereby a natural water barrier is created. In addition to this the fabric is subject to a permanent water repellency treatment.
The entire production process is CO2 neutral and the fabric of our wrap is certified according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

The material used for the outdoor wrap is currently the most breathable and weatherproof fabric on the market. It is thus ideally suited to face the most adverse weather conditions without sacrificing comfort.

We have used the benefits of this material, which is used primarily for demanding outdoor, work and sports clothing, to close the gap that conventional wrap-arounds have left due to their lack of weather resistance. What is more, the fabric is very durable, tear-, and stain-resistant, making it extremely easy to clean and an optimal travel and trip companion.

Made in Ireland.

Environmental and especially social factors are a major issue for us. Only strict environmental and social conditions guarantee that no damage is caused to the workers. Therefore we have decided to produce completely within Europe in order to absolutely ensure, that our baby wrap-arounds are produced under humane conditions and are absolutely free of child labour and exploitation throughout the whole production chain. The high-quality cotton comes from the USA, the fabric of the wrap-around is woven in Switzerland and the wraps are finally sewn by hand in Ireland.

Test procedures

The technical characteristics above are based on standardised test procedures for the comparison of various textile products. In the following, each method will be described more closely in order to clarify the relevance of the various factors for the baby wrap.

Tensile strength

In controlled conditions the exact moment is determined at which force pulls the fabric apart. For the outdoor wrap this happens only when a 5 cm wide piece is loaded with over 75 kg in the lateral direction and about 110 kg in the longitudinal direction. Since your child will never be as heavy as this and it is held by a much wider fabric lengths, you can be absolutely certain that the wrap will hold your baby.

Water repellency

For this test the fabric is irrigated for 30 minutes with a predetermined amount of water and pressure, which simulates a steady rain of approximately one hour. No water penetrates through the fabric of our wrap in this test.

The water roll-off is graded on a scale of 1 to 5, where grade 5 represents the best rating. Our textile thus lies with grade 4 at the top end. The effect is shown also in the illustration above on this page.

In extreme weather conditions the absolute water absorption of this fabric is at most 10% of its own weight. For traditionally produced cotton the amount can be up to 65% and is achieved much faster, because of the lack of water repellency. Our fabric remains pleasantly light under continuous rain, i.e. a maximum of only 51g heavier. In addition, the material would need to get the same amount of water everywhere, which in a winded wrap is not the case.

Water vapour permeability

Here the fabric is placed on a heated, porous plate, which simulates the skin. Now the resistance of the material to water vapour (sweat evaporating) is determined. The smaller the resistance, the better the breathability of the fabric. The results are evaluated on the following scale:

Ret-value below 6 extremely breathable
Ret-value 6-13 very breathable
Ret-value 13-20 breathable
Ret-value above 20 not breathable

In this test the outdoor wrap has received the Ret value 6 and is right on the border between very and extremely breathable. In conjunction with the extremely good water repellency this product feature is completely unique on the market.

Advantages of the baby wrap-around to backpack carriers

  • the baby wrap-around for all weathers is the cheap alternative to expensive backpack carriers
  • it has little weight (510g)
  • in contrast to a backpack carrier, the wrap can be packed up into a volume of only half a milk bottle (1.2 l)
  • it is easily managed to carry child and a backpack at the same time
  • it also offers the flexibility to carry the child on your back, or with any other winding technique if required
  • children in a wrap can often sleep better, than in other carrier systems, because you can wrap them optimally
  • the liberty of movement for the wearer is much higher
  • because of the very secure fit of the child even very demanding activities are possible
  • furthermore you always have a pillow or blanket with you
  • and the outdoor baby wrap guarantees to be absolutly free of child labour or exploitation, as it is produced exclusively in the USA, Switzerland and Ireland
Blowing in the wind.

I would like to clarify the aspect that backpack and child can be carried at the same time giving a small example of how important it can be. A four-member family with relatively young children is on a day hike and has also a little fellow, who has to be carried. One parent carries the child, the other the large day pack with jackets, food, etc. Now it happens that one of the parents injures his foot. He can hobble slowly back to the car park, but he can't carry anything anymore. If you now have a backpack carrier for your offspring it will be really hard for the uninjured parent to carry the backpack carrier on the back and the other backpack on your tummy. If the family instead has a baby wrap-around with them, then the healthy parent can easily bind the little one on his/her tummy and take the backpack on the back. Thus, the wrap can be a safety feature for all young parents which are looking for a challenge with their offspring, too.
